The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) has solicited the support of the federal and state governments to implement its project tagged “One Family 20 Palm Trees.”
One Family 20 Palm Trees is NPPAN’s initiative to empower each household across the country to plant 20 palm trees.
The National President of NPPAN, Amb. Alphonsus Inyang spoke on Friday in Abuja.
“We want the government to provide seedlings and input for rural households to plant in their neighbourhood and environment,” he said.
He said if the project was implemented, every household would be able to plant palm trees, harvest and take to the market; thereby reducing the cost of production in the country by 70 per cent.
The president further said the measure by NPPAN would boost domestic production, increase exports and ensure a drastic reduction in the cost of palm oil importation.
The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) as an Association was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the 22nd May 1995 with certificate number 271,945.
About twenty-five (25) years ago, the founding members saw the need for an umbrella body that would cater for all and sundry regarding the palm tree business, from nursery development, cultivation, production, sale, marketing, research and development, etc.
