The Minister of Livestock Development, Maiha Mukhtar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to deliver a robust livestock sector for Nigerians.
He made the statement on Friday in Abuja while receiving the 2025 Best Minister Award from Daily Asset Newspaper.
“There is need to move beyond rhetoric to implementation. The ministry is focused on sedentarisation, mechanization, dairy development, youth engagement, and the adoption of technology across the livestock value chain,” he said.
Mukhtar described the recognition as humbling and deeply emotional, thanking the organizers.
He noted that the post-award reception offered an opportunity to celebrate the honor and engage informally with stakeholders on the ministry’s ongoing reforms and achievements.
Mukhtar called the award a “jet propulsion engine” that would energize the ministry to raise its performance, defy limitations, and deliver tangible results in 2026 and beyond.
He said the Federal Government would transform the livestock sector into a major contributor to GDP, rural employment, national food security, and peace.
“Nigeria has the resources and capacity to achieve far greater productivity and competitiveness in livestock production,” he said.
The minister dedicated the award to the entire Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, describing staff as critical partners in delivering results despite operational and funding challenges.
He appreciated the media, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to justify the confidence reposed in it through sustained performance and impactful reforms.
Dr Cletus Akwaya, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Daily Asset Newspaper, said the minister was selected for his visionary leadership, policy clarity, and measurable impact in repositioning the livestock sector.
Akwaya highlighted Mukhtar’s consistent focus on solutions that unite the country, promote productivity, and address the root causes of farmer-herder conflicts, turning the sector into a tool for peacebuilding, food security, and economic diversification.
