The Federal Government has trained 27 Civil Servants of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on entrepreneurship skills development on Agro- Allied enterprises.
The 4th edition of the entrepreneurship skills development, focused on Poultry farming, Vegetable farming and Potato farming.
At the end of the training, certificates were presented to participants as well as starter- packs to retired and retiring staff.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Ernest Umakhihe said the training aimed to enhance participants productivity.
Umakhihe also said that the purpose of the training was to empower retiring officers to establish small – scale businesses.
”The essence of this workshop is to empower participants to be independent and productive while also complementing the ministry’s efforts in achieving its core mandate,” he said.
He advised the beneficiaries to grow their businesses with the knowledge they had acquired from the training to boost food security.
Earlier,Mr Udo Effik, Director, Reform Coordination, Service Improvement and Innovation, ministry of Agriculture said the workshop was apt.
Effik said it was an annual event to prepare staff of the ministry existing service to be self – reliant and remain productive while out of service
”The workshop is apt because as experienced partners in progress, your roles are critical in supporting the ministry to achieve its mandates.
”This initiative is in line with the ministry’s mandate of ensuring availability food for the ordinary Nigerian, employment generation and wealth creation,” he said.
He said the training was part of the strategic efforts by the ministry in driving the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 25).
The director reiterated that the three main areas of focus which is poultry, vegetable and potato farming would meet the desired needs of the participants.
He expressed hope that the lessons learnt from the training, would prepare the participants to make useful contributions towards the ministry’s efforts in delivering the four priorities of the renewed hope agenda of Tinubu.
In a remark, the Director Agri – business, ministry of Agriculture, Mr Michael Adebiyi, said that the training was timely as it came at a time Tinubu had declared state of emergency on food security.
He said the training aimed to ensure retiring officers engage in productive activities after retirement.
Responding, a retired officer, Mr Julius Ayodele, thanked the ministry for the impactful training and the starter packs given to them.
Another retired civil servant, Mr Bartholomew David also thanked the Government for the training and packages to set up small businesses after retirement.
