The Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) has entered into a partnership with SNV, a Netherlands-based development organization, to enhance agricultural productivity and create opportunities for farmers in the state.
During an interactive session with an SNV delegation in Bauchi, BSADP Programme Manager Akilu Abdulkarim highlighted that the partnership would leverage SNV’s technical expertise to develop various sectors of Bauchi’s agricultural economy.
He noted that the collaboration aims to empower youth and women farmers across the state.
SNV’s Country Representative in Nigeria, David Stanley, stated that the initiative aims to reach 1.5 million smallholder farmers in four countries—Nigeria, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso—with a particular emphasis on women and youth. He explained that BSADP was chosen as a key partner due to its significant role in supporting farmers and its activities around watershed areas.
Stanley added that the program is a 10-year project targeting the reclamation of 2 million hectares of land across the four countries, with 800,000 hectares specifically allocated to Nigeria’s 19 northern states.
SNV is a global development partner, that seeks to bring transformations in vital agri-food, energy, and water systems.
SNV contributes by strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships in these sectors.
“We help strengthen institutions and effective governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises.
“Building on 60 years of experience we support our partners with our technical and process expertise and methodological rigour.
“We do this in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia with a team of approximately 1,600 colleagues. By being adaptable and tailoring our approaches to these different contexts, we can contribute to impact at scale, resulting in more equitable lives for all.”
