ASHENEWS has organized onboarding and capacity-building training for its reporters.
The two-day event convened in Minna, the Niger state capital has the theme: “Building Strong Foundations for ASHE Reporting and Editorial Excellence”, held between Monday, 5th February, and Tuesday 6th February 2024.
Part of the objectives of the training was to boost the reporter’s understanding of the key thematic areas of coverage for ASHENEWS.
The training also availed reporters the opportunity to reflect on the editorial policies and procedures of ASHENEWS in reporting related content.
The reporters were trained by experienced journalists in Health Reporting, Environment/Climate Change reporting, Investigative Reporting as well as SEO Techniques, and Data visualization.
The facilitators of the training included the Editor-in-Chief of Environews, Michael Simire; Mrs. Grace Obike from the Nation Newspaper; the Deputy Editor of The Cable, Mr. Yekeen Akinwale; a News Editor at the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), Mr Markus Fatunmole, and a session on SEO techniques by Mr George Kaduna.

In their respective addresses, the Editor-in-Chief, Abdallah el-Kurebe, and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ASHENEWS, Mr. Abdallah El-Kurebe and Miss Justina Asishana tasked the participants to live up to the expectations of the management in line with its mission and vision.
The duo also urged them to maximize the knowledge gained from the training to strengthen the quality of their reportage.
