AFAN warns members against alleged fraudulent demands for elections

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) faction led by Arc. Kabir Ibrahim has issued a stern warning to its members nationwide and all stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural ecosystem against falling victim to fraudulent demands for money related to purported elections.

ASHENEWS reports that AFAN is embroiled in a litigation between Arc. Kabir Ibrahim and Dr. Faruk Mudi. The Federal High Court had ruled in favour of Dr. Mudi, against which Arc. Ibrahim approached the Court of Appeal, which upheld the judgement of the lower court. Presently, Arc. Ibrahim has appealed the Appeal Court judgement to the Supreme Court.

In a notice dated September 15, 2025, by Arc. Ibrahim’s faction and signed by Salisu Mukhtar, the Assistant National Public Relations Officer, the faction denounced ongoing attempts by unscrupulous individuals claiming to conduct elections and collecting fees from unsuspecting farmers.

The notice clarifies that the ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal on July 17, 2025, affirmed AFAN’s April 10, 2021, election and confirmed the tenure of elected officers will expire on April 10, 2026.

The notice stresses that Dr. Faruk Mudi, who is referred to as the so-called President, is ineligible for a second term according to the AFAN constitution relied upon by the courts. The association also highlighted that the judgment is currently under appeal at the Supreme Court and remains uncertified by the Court of Appeal due to a court vacation.

AFAN cautioned its members against paying any money based on the existing judgment and advised all farmers to focus strictly on legitimate farming activities while awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision.

The association reiterated that the ongoing legal dispute centers on matters of jurisdiction and adherence to the AFAN constitution, underlining that only the Supreme Court can conclusively settle the dispute.

The notice calls for calm and unity among members during this period, assuring that AFAN’s national leadership remains committed to transparent governance in line with the constitution.

Salisu Mukhtar and AFAN’s national executives appeal to all stakeholders to disregard fraudulent election solicitations and to continue lawful engagement in the agricultural sector.

This development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings between Arch Kabir Ibrahim-led dissolved National Working Committee and the Incorporated Trustees of AFAN concerning the leadership legitimacy of the association.

The association’s top officials and council members await the Supreme Court ruling to bring resolution to the leadership impasse affecting farm stakeholders nationwide.

Contact details and legal representation information were also included in the notice for transparency and further communication.
