The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has expressed deep shock over the fire outbreak that ravaged Shagon Goro Market in Sokoto.

The early morning inferno, which occurred on Sunday, destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira, leaving many traders counting their losses.

In a statement issued on Monday, Senator Wamakko said he received the news with great sadness, describing the incident as a painful setback for hardworking traders whose livelihoods depend on the market.

The former governor of Sokoto State called on the affected traders to remain steadfast and take solace in the will of Almighty Allah, noting that God is the ultimate protector and restorer of all things.

He prayed for divine intervention to prevent future occurrences of such disasters and asked Allah to grant the victims the strength to bear their losses and recover what was destroyed in the fire.

Senator Wamakko also urged relevant authorities and stakeholders to intensify safety measures in markets across the state to safeguard lives and property and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The statement was signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bashar Abubakar, and dated Monday, January 19, 2026.
