Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has donated N1 billion to support victims of natural and human-induced disasters in Niger State.

The donation was made through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), during a visit to Minna on Tuesday. The beneficiaries include victims of flooding, fire outbreaks, boat accidents, and banditry attacks.

Describing the various incidents as deeply tragic, Mrs. Tinubu said, “These are indeed challenging times. I pray that Almighty God comforts the bereaved families, heals the injured, and strengthens all those affected.”

She commended the swift intervention by the Federal Government in providing emergency funds and relief materials to those impacted, stressing that the strength of any nation lies in its compassion during times of crisis.

“I am glad that President Bola Tinubu swiftly approved the immediate release of funds and food items to support recovery efforts and the reconstruction of homes destroyed by the flood,” she added.

The First Lady noted that her visit was to commiserate with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and the people of Niger State over the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area, which claimed several lives and displaced many families.

She also lauded the state government’s prompt response, including its donation of funds and grains to the affected communities.

“In support of the rebuilding efforts of the Niger State Government, the Governing Council of the Renewed Hope Initiative is donating the sum of N1 billion, along with relief materials, including clothes, shoes, and 2,000 bags of 50kg rice,” Mrs. Tinubu announced.

She further extended her heartfelt condolences to families affected by recent tragic boat mishaps, victims of banditry, and those who suffered from fire outbreaks across the state.

“As a mother, I share your pain and grief over these irreplaceable losses. I believe that we can collectively overcome this tragedy and help affected communities heal. May God comfort you and grant eternal rest to the souls of the departed,” she said.

According to her, the funds will be directed towards housing support and essential supplies to help displaced families rebuild their lives—“in line with the objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative, as stated in our motto: ‘Towards a Better Life for Families.’”

Governor Bago expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady for their continued support and compassion toward the people of Niger State.
