The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) on Wednesday seized three rams and a cow in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, the state capital.
The Chairperson of OYRLEA, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, announced this during a visit to the area with her enforcement team.
She was joined by the state’s Environmental Task Force Chairman, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Francis Ojomo. Aderemi explained that the animals were seized after residents of Unique Estate in Oluyole complained.
She also gave residents of Abidiodan in Lagelu Local Government Area a seven-day deadline to remove shanties built on road edges. She said the structures were being used by criminals and for illegal activities.
Aderemi stressed that her agency would continue enforcing environmental laws, anti-open grazing rules, and other regulations in the state.
She said, “We are giving the owner of the rams and cow seven days to claim them, or they will lose them and be fined.”
She added, “We are also giving people in Abidiodan one week to remove the shanties from road edges because they are being used by criminals.”
Aderemi said enforcement of rules against street trading and open grazing has started and will continue across the state.
She reminded the public that the government had already educated people on these issues. She mentioned that awareness campaigns started earlier this year at Bodija Market and have continued since then.
She made it clear that the enforcement team will now act to ensure people obey the laws.
The enforcement team also included members of Operation Burst, the Environmental Task Force, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Amotekun Corps.
