Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has rewarded outstanding teachers and students with cash awards to promote excellence, dedication and improved learning outcomes in public schools.
The Chairman of the council, Mr David Odunmbaku, on Tuesday presented the awards under his administration’s Annual Teachers Empowerment Project and HEYS Agenda Reloaded, with education as a key pillar.
The council chairman was represented by his Vice Chairman, Mrs Funmilayo Layeni, at the event held at the council secretariat, Powerline, Oke-Ira, Lagos.
Odunmbaku said the initiative was aimed at recognising excellence and encouraging commitment among teachers and students.
“This is more than a presentation ceremony, but a celebration of education, excellence, dedication, empowerment and reaffirmation of our administration’s commitment to investing in the people and future of Ojodu,” he said.
He said honouring teachers demonstrated that hard work, discipline, dedication and perseverance produced results, while the bursary support was designed to assist deserving students.
According to him, his administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment where children can learn, teachers can excel and families receive necessary support.
Odunmbaku said the council would continue to invest in education to ensure young people acquire the knowledge and skills required to succeed.
He disclosed that between 2022 and 2026, the administration distributed 1,250 General Certificate of Education forms and 1,800 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms.
“The administration also distributed 60,000 exercise books, 4,000 school bags, 3,730 school uniforms and 150 Back-To-School kits. Also, 1,100 pairs of desks and chairs have been provided to public schools across the council area, among other interventions,” the chairman said.
The Head of Education Department, Ojodu LCDA, Mr Akeem Adekoya, commended the chairman for the initiative, noting that it would motivate teachers to perform better.
“This gesture will not only reward excellence but also inspire other teachers to remain committed to their duties,” Adekoya said.
In the awards category, Oladapo Adedayo of Ojodu Primary School One emerged overall best teacher and received N350,000. Francis Itunu of Ogba Primary School came second with N250,000, while Bisilola Oluyemisi secured third position with N250,000.
Twelve other teachers received N50,000 each, while 60 students were awarded bursaries of N50,000 each.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the overall best teacher, Adedayo, expressed appreciation to the council chairman for recognising their efforts. He said the award would encourage teachers to continue to give their best in shaping the future of students.
