The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of rainfall and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency forecast predominantly sunny skies across the northern region on Monday, with patches of clouds expected over parts of the area. It also predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall in parts of Taraba State later in the day.

For the North-Central region, NiMet said cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine would prevail throughout the forecast period.

The agency also forecast cloudy skies with sunny intervals over the southern region, with chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

It added that moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected later in the day over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

On Tuesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall expected in parts of Taraba State later in the day.

According to the agency, the North-Central region will continue to experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine throughout the period, while the southern region is expected to remain cloudy with sunny intervals.

NiMet forecast afternoon or evening thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states.

For Wednesday, the agency predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds across the northern region throughout the forecast period.

It said the North-Central region would experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine, while the southern region would see cloudy skies with chances of moderate thunderstorms and rainfall in parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states later in the day.

NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas likely to experience rainfall and advised residents to take necessary precautions by securing loose objects to prevent damage.

The agency also cautioned motorists against driving during heavy rainfall, advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms and urged the public to avoid sheltering under tall trees due to the risk of falling branches.

It further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective operational planning.

According to the agency, temperatures are expected to remain high, causing thermal discomfort. It therefore urged residents to wear light, breathable clothing, stay in well-ventilated environments and remain hydrated.

NiMet encouraged the public to stay updated through its official website, NiMet.
