The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) says it is committed to the promotion of environmental professionalism and sustainability.
The National President, NES, Dr Efegbidiki Okobia, made this pledge in an interview on Monday in Abuja ahead of NES 2024 National Conference scheduled for Oct. 30 to Nov.1 in Lagos.
The theme for the conference is “Environmental Resource Management, Conservation and Protection in the Global Emerging Innovative Technology for Sustainable Development.”
He said in the efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the 33rd national conference would examine global environmental challenges and initiate actions to ensure a sustainable environment and economic growth for Nigeria.
“NES is committed to advocacy and actions towards environmental protection, sustainable development and the promotion of environmental professionalism within Nigeria and in the global arena.”
According to Okobia, the forthcoming conference is tagged “EKO 2024.”
He added that the conference would also proffer scientific and practical solutions to global, national, sub-national and local environmental challenges.
Okobia said that apart from the main theme of the conference, there were other sub-themes that would be discussed at the technical sessions with cut-crossing environmental sustainability challenges.
He said that the theme aimed at examining realities, alignments and contradictions in the global action to limit environmental degradation and its implications for sustainable development in the global south.
“The society is the biggest environmental society in Sub-Saharan Africa and recognised internationally with more than 30 chapters in the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
