The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the recovery of over 100 bodies following a catastrophic flood that struck Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State.

Dozens of others who sustained injuries have received treatment at various healthcare facilities and have since been discharged.

The NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, disclosed this during an on-site assessment of the disaster-stricken areas.

According to Umar, the worst-affected communities include Unguwan Hausawa and Tiffin Maza within Mokwa LGA. She described the destruction as extensive, citing a significant loss of life and property.

In a swift humanitarian response, NEMA deployed tents, relief materials, and essential household items to support displaced residents.

These supplies were officially handed over to the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, who praised the agency’s timely intervention and support.

Umar also stated that emergency responders remain on the ground to monitor potential secondary hazards. She urged residents to remain alert and report any unusual developments to security agencies, NEMA, or the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

A comprehensive post-disaster assessment will be conducted, she added, to inform long-term recovery and reconstruction efforts.
