The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a female victim involved in a hit-and-run incident at EFF Bus Stop on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement on Monday.
Bakare-Oki stated that the accident occurred on Monday and involved an unidentified motorist who fled the scene immediately after hitting the victim.
“The victim was left critically exposed and unattended on the busy expressway. LASTMA personnel, monitoring and regulating traffic in the area, quickly activated an emergency response by securing the victim from further danger.
“She was evacuated from the carriageway, and LASTMA immediately alerted Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) officials while implementing traffic control measures to prevent secondary accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow,” he explained.
He added that LASAMBUS officers safely transported the victim to the General Hospital, Odan, where she was admitted for medical evaluation and urgent treatment.
Bakare-Oki expressed concern over the recurring hit-and-run cases, describing such acts as morally reprehensible and legally condemnable.
“Every motorist has a civic and moral obligation to respect human life. Fleeing the scene after causing injury is an abandonment of responsibility and a grave violation of morality and the rule of law,” he stated.
He urged motorists to exercise caution and comply strictly with traffic regulations.
He also advised the public to promptly report road accidents and emergencies through the proper channels to enable immediate response by relevant authorities.
