The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three victims of a multiple-vehicle collision on the LASU–Isheri Road.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to Bakare-Oki, preliminary findings showed that the accident involved a Mack flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna, and two commercial tricycles.
He said the crash occurred at Iyana School, inward Igando.
“The Mack flatbed truck reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide violently with the Toyota Sienna and the two tricycles, triggering a serious multi-vehicle crash.
“LASTMA personnel, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded swiftly by activating the agency’s emergency response protocol.
“Their prompt intervention helped rescue the trapped victims, prevent secondary collisions, and restore normal traffic flow on the affected route,” he said.
Bakare-Oki added that LASTMA worked closely with officers from the Iba Police Division to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the accident scene.
“Regrettably, the accident left three occupants — one male and two females — with varying degrees of severe fractures.
“However, through the coordinated efforts of LASTMA officers and other emergency responders, the victims were successfully extricated from the wreckage and rushed to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are currently receiving specialised medical treatment.”
He advised motorists, especially operators of articulated vehicles, to conduct comprehensive mechanical inspections on their vehicles before embarking on any journey, with particular emphasis on the braking system.
He noted that routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components remains essential in reducing road accidents and improving overall road safety.
