The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) announced that a single-vehicle accident on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway resulted in the death of the driver.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stated in a release that the accident occurred at Charity Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo on Saturday morning.
Bakare-Oki explained that LASTMA, in collaboration with officers from the Nigeria Police Force, promptly conducted rescue and recovery operations.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the involved Honda Pilot SUV suddenly lost control, overturned multiple times, and came to a stop,” he said.
“The impact caused the immediate death of the driver, whose body was trapped in the wreckage.
“LASTMA officers on routine traffic monitoring in the Iyana Isolo area responded swiftly to the emergency,” he added.
He noted that LASTMA officers, working alongside personnel from Mosafejo Police Division, extricated the deceased while ensuring traffic flow to prevent further accidents.
Bakare-Oki also mentioned that officers from the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit took the body to a public mortuary in accordance with health regulations.
“The wrecked vehicle was handed over to the police for further investigation into the cause of the crash,” he said.
He urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic regulations, especially during late-night and early-morning travels.
Bakare-Oki warned against reckless driving, speeding, and dangerous overtaking, emphasizing that human life should always be prioritized on the roads.
He stressed that no journey is worth risking lives through unsafe driving practices.
