The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has responded swiftly to a fire outbreak at the SAPID Container Terminal, Mile II area of Lagos.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters on Sunday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Jan. 24, prompting the immediate deployment of LASEMA’s Eagle Squad to the scene.
“On arrival, emergency responders swiftly commenced containment operations, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining facilities,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a building located behind the SAPID Container Terminal, where several drums of chemicals and oils were stored.
The agency attributed the probable cause of the fire outbreak to the presence of combustible materials.
The statement said no casualties or loss of life were recorded due to the prompt intervention of emergency agencies.
It added that firefighting operations were intensified as responders worked to fully extinguish the blaze and protect nearby structures.
Agencies on the ground included LASEMA’s Eagle Team from Cappa, the Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire Service, and officers of the Nigeria Police.
The statement noted that the situation remained under control, with continuous monitoring and response efforts ongoing.
