The Lagos State Command and Control Centre has proposed a strategic media partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to enhance public information management and emergency communication across the state.
The General Manager of the centre, Mr. Femi Giwa, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to NAN’s Lagos Directorate on Wednesday.
Giwa described NAN as Nigeria’s leading national news platform, well-positioned to amplify the centre’s messages nationwide.
He stressed that accurate and timely dissemination of information during emergencies is vital to prevent rumors, reduce panic, and maintain public calm.
According to him, the Command and Control Centre serves as the central hub for emergency response coordination in Lagos State. It manages multi-agency responses and operates the state’s emergency toll-free lines, 767 and 112.
“The Command and Control Centre is the central hub where emergency response begins and ends in Lagos,” Giwa said.
He explained that the facility provides real-time situational awareness through advanced communication infrastructure.
Giwa added that a partnership with NAN would help promote the emergency numbers more effectively and raise public awareness across diverse communities.
“We are partners in progress when it comes to public information management,” he stated.
Earlier, the Managing Editor and Head of Lagos Editorial Operations, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Omowole, highlighted the agency’s extensive nationwide network.
Omowole noted that NAN maintains district offices across the country, including in hard-to-reach areas, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
She assured the delegation of NAN’s commitment to fair, balanced, and factual reporting, adding that the agency remains dedicated to amplifying credible voices and fostering mutually beneficial institutional partnerships.
The highlight of the visit was the exchange of gifts between the two organizations, symbolizing the spirit of collaboration.
The proposed partnership reflects growing recognition of the critical role media plays in supporting emergency management, public safety, and effective governance in a megacity like Lagos, where rapid, accurate information can save lives and reduce the impact of crises.
