The Kano State Government has extended the deadline for the ongoing recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) by an additional 60 days, moving the deadline from January 31 to April 1, 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Kano by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Abubakar Abdulabal.
According to the statement, the extension was granted in response to concerns raised by property owners over the initial time frame. The government aims to ensure that all eligible individuals have ample opportunity to complete the recertification process.
“The government acknowledges the concerns regarding the initial time frame and has decided to extend the deadline to provide property owners with sufficient time to comply,” Abdulabal said.
He further warned that failure to recertify ownership documents within the new timeline could result in the forfeiture of property rights under existing land regulations.
The recertification exercise is being conducted at the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) office, where property owners are expected to update their records in line with the state government’s land administration reforms.
“The recertification process is crucial for maintaining proper land documentation and ensuring legal ownership. Property owners are, therefore, urged to comply within the stipulated period to avoid any legal consequences,” the commissioner added.
The extension underscores the Kano State Government’s commitment to enhancing land administration and ensuring that property records remain up to date.
