Kaduna’s ACReSAL project has started compensating residents affected by a 3.8-km flood-control initiative aimed at reducing flooding and erosion in Kawo community.
The compensation, part of the ACReSAL Project, is expected to facilitate construction along the designated corridor in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
Hadiza Halid, ACReSAL Project Coordinator, called the exercise a major milestone in the state’s efforts to combat persistent flooding and enhance environmental resilience.
She emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring Project Affected Persons (PAPs) receive fair compensation before construction begins.
Halid also highlighted that the intervention reflects the administration’s dedication to sustainable development and protecting vulnerable communities.
The District Head of Kawo, Jibrin Magaji, praised the government and ACReSAL for prioritizing residents’ welfare.
Magaji described the payment as a display of fairness, compassion, and respect for human dignity.
On behalf of the PAPs, Muntaka Bilbis expressed gratitude to the government, ACReSAL, and stakeholders for their efforts toward the project’s realization.
The flood control project is expected to reduce flood risks, control erosion, protect homes and infrastructure, and safeguard livelihoods in Kawo and nearby areas.
The compensation exercise was witnessed by members of the Resettlement Implementation Committee, Kawo Development Association Chairman Shehu Dantudu, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
