The Kaduna State Government has highlighted the ongoing 36-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi road project in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area as a major boost for rural connectivity and economic growth, set to open access to approximately 66 farming communities.
The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, made the statement during an inspection visit to the project site over the weekend.
Baba-Ahmed described Governor Uba Sani’s rural infrastructure drive as “revolutionary,” explaining that the road would significantly improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities for local residents.
He noted that the Bagoma–Gagumi road is expected to surpass the recently commissioned 35-kilometre Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama road—previously described as the state’s longest rural road constructed in two decades—in scale and impact.
The Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama road traverses Igabi, Kajuru, and Chikun Local Government Areas and includes a 130-metre bridge across the Kaduna River, enhancing connectivity for several rural communities.
“Birnin Gwari is one of Nigeria’s leading maize-producing areas, and this road will greatly enhance transportation of farm produce and stimulate economic growth,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He disclosed that the Bagoma–Gagumi project forms part of the state government’s ambitious plan to construct approximately 1,345 kilometres of roads across 20 local government areas.
Under the programme, about 150 infrastructure projects have been initiated, with 66 already completed, he added.
The Bagoma–Gagumi road is being executed by CGC Nigeria Ltd., a company recognised for delivering major road, bridge, and water supply projects across the country.
Baba-Ahmed said the road is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, but the contractor has assured the government of possible early delivery.
The Northern Regional Manager of CGC Nigeria Ltd., Wang Hongxi, confirmed that the firm has mobilised additional workers and equipment to accelerate progress.
“We have mobilised more workers and are working round the clock to ensure the project is delivered on schedule,” Hongxi stated.
The project underscores the Kaduna State Government’s renewed focus on rural infrastructure development to unlock agricultural potential, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve the quality of life in underserved communities.
