The Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) are taking concrete steps to deepen collaboration on environmental protection and sustainable forest management.
The renewed partnership was formalized during a strategic courtesy visit on Thursday by the NESREA South-West zonal team, led by Acting Zonal Director Mr. Peniel Jack, to FRIN’s Director-General, Prof. Zachariah Yaduma.
During the visit, Jack commended Prof. Yaduma’s leadership in advancing climate change mitigation through large-scale tree planting initiatives.
He highlighted NESREA’s high regard for FRIN’s expertise and its pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability and global forest resource conservation.
“We look forward to leveraging the strong relationship between the two agencies’ leadership for more impactful collaborations that will help in environmental protection in the Southwest and Nigeria at large,” Jack said.
FRIN’s Director of Research and Coordinating Department, Dr. Osikabor Benson, also welcomed the renewed collaboration, emphasizing its potential to deliver tangible progress toward shared environmental objectives.
In response, Prof. Yaduma applauded the strengthened partnership and pledged FRIN’s full commitment to sustained synergy with NESREA.
The visit marks a significant step toward closer operational alignment between the two institutions, combining FRIN’s research and technical expertise in forestry with NESREA’s regulatory and enforcement mandate to tackle deforestation, climate change, and broader environmental challenges more effectively across Nigeria’s South-West zone and beyond.
