The FCT chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has conducted a membership verification and revalidation exercise.
The exercise took place over the weekend at the guild’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The in-person process was designed to sanitise the guild’s membership database, eliminate “ghost members,” and migrate all records to the AGN Super App, a digital database platform.
The two-day exercise attracted Nollywood actors from across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In an interview with Ashenews on the sidelines, Chairman of the Screening Committee, Agility Onwurah, said the exercise was in compliance with directives from the national leadership of the guild.
According to him, the mandatory exercise aims to standardise and sanitise membership records across all state chapters. He warned that members who fail to revalidate their membership risk being delisted from the official register.
“As a guild, this periodic verification is part of our operations, especially with a new leadership in place. We use it to collate data on both old and new members, within and outside the country, and possibly issue new ID cards if the incoming government desires,” he said.
Onwurah also encouraged actors to enrol in the guild’s health insurance scheme to access prompt and affordable medical care when needed.
“To avoid imminent health breakdown, we are urging members to enrol in our HMO schemes for regular medical tests. We have HMOs spread across the country, and we appeal to members who have not yet registered to do so,” he said.
Also speaking with Ashenews, Salma Aminu, FCT Mayor of AGN, who hosted the exercise, said it was meant to reinforce the accuracy, transparency, and credibility of the guild’s membership database by ensuring only legitimate practitioners are recognised.
Aminu lauded the actors who participated, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to the guild’s progress.
“There are a lot of people who claim to be members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria but are not actually registered. This exercise was necessary to ascertain who our genuine members are. Those who did not show up have automatically ceased to be members of the guild,” she said.
Some participants who spoke with Ashenews commended the leadership for the initiative.
Ace actor and producer, Jerry Amilo, described the exercise as apt and timely.
“Sometimes you meet people who claim to be members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and you start wondering. This exercise will really help us to know ourselves,” he said.
Sensational actor, Benedict Johnson, also commended the initiative and urged members to participate fully to ensure a seamless database update by the guild’s leadership.
