The ECOWAS Parliament has called for urgent and coordinated action by West African countries to confront the growing impacts of climate change across the region.
The lawmakers stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation and concrete measures to improve climate resilience, particularly as communities face increasing pressure from extreme weather, environmental degradation and other climate-related risks.
They also highlighted the importance of moving climate commitments beyond declarations by improving access to adaptation finance and ensuring that vulnerable communities benefit from climate interventions.
The parliamentarians further called for greater investment in cleaner energy, climate-resilient development and technology transfer, while balancing environmental action with the region’s energy and economic development needs.
