The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that four people have died as a result of recent floods in the state.
The disaster has also destroyed homes, submerged farmlands, and washed away parts of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.
Speaking on Wednesday in Bauchi, SEMA Director-General Mr Masud Aliyu reported that the floods primarily affected Shira, Giade, and Katagum Local Government Areas after days of heavy rainfall.
“The flood has left thousands homeless, submerged farmlands, and severed key roads,” Aliyu said.
He highlighted that the Giade-Isawa road and sections of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway were particularly impacted.
In response, the Bauchi state government has mobilised contractors to repair the damaged sections of the roads, aiming to restore alternative routes for commuters.
Aliyu also urged residents to heed warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) regarding the risk of further flooding.
The damaged portion of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway has significantly disrupted the movement of goods and services across the region, affecting connections between Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe in the northeast.
