The Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has responded to claims that Nigeria’s airports are not insured.
She explained that all airport insurance is current and that there are official records to prove this.
Mrs. Kuku also said that the runways have been cleaned and maintained through a process called de-rubberisation, and there are records to show the work has been done.
She added that some problems still exist, such as people living near the airports and birds getting in the way of planes. FAAN is working with other groups to solve these problems.
She also said that some runways had old or damaged structures, but these are being fixed slowly through full repairs and regular maintenance.
De-rubberisation is the process of removing rubber buildup from the runways so that airplane tyres can grip better when landing.
In short, it helps make landings on the runways safer.
