The Lagos Seasiders male handball team on Sunday in Abuja trounced Niger United of Minna 27-22 on day nine of the ongoing Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
The Niger United led the first half 10-12 but they could not convert more chances, allowing Lagos Seasiders to lead from behind and convert more goals till the end.
The event is taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The competition is expected to end on Nov. 14.
Speaking after the match, Chief Coach of Lagos Seasiders male team, Duru Olabukola, lauded her teams’ superb and in-form performance.
“So far, with the men team now placed position number three and the women at number two on the logs.
“I believe that the Seasiders men team are up in chase of the prudent Premier League this year.
“As you can see, it’s a 50-50 thing, and it is among the three top teams – Safety Shooters, Kano Pillars and the Seasiders.
“In which I believe if we are able to win our match against Kano pillars male team, I see us finishing first or second in the league.
“But right now we are still very much in the race for the trophy,” she said.
Duru, who is also Chief Coach of the female team, described her team’s performance as very good.
“The female team, Seasiders Babes, are now in fourth position, but if we win our remaining matches we can finish second or third,” she said.
The Lagos Seasiders male team will face Kano Pillars on Tuesday, while Niger United will face Plateau Vipers on Monday.
Twelve teams are participating in the league’s male category and 10 teams in the female category.
