A non-governmental organization (NGO), the Ikang Relief Services Network (IRSN) says it provided educational support for 35 indigent children in 2022.
According to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mboho Eno, the education support program seeks to facilitate enrollment and retention of children from indigent families in schools.
It added that the program was initiated due to inability of many families to enroll and keep their children in school.
Giving an update on its annual report, the COO said that the program takes care of beneficiaries’ tuition, school uniforms, books, bags, shoes, and other needs for comfortable learning.
He said that the program would prevent the children from negative implications of being out of school, alleviate poverty and facilitate lasting change in the lives of the beneficiaries and their families.
Eno stated that since its inception in 2019, the network has sponsored 75 children, which include 33 boys and 42 girls into school.
The organization called on individuals to join hands with the organization to enable them to sponsor more children into school.
“We need more collaboration. We call for individuals and organizations to help us in sponsoring some of the children. Full sponsorship of a child in primary school is N60,000 while for a child in secondary school, it is N75,000 annually.”
