The Kano State Government has approved over ₦8.2 billion for the execution of key projects in the education and water supply sectors across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Kano on Monday by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the projects were approved during the 33rd Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Yusuf. The initiatives are aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing learning standards, and expanding access to quality education in the state.
Bature explained that ₦4.9 billion was allocated to the education sector for projects that include the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo; settlement of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers; and the production of instructional materials.
Other education-related projects include the completion and furnishing of the e-library at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, as well as accreditation exercises at the Kano State Polytechnic. Funds were also approved for the procurement of office furniture and fittings at North-West University, Kano.
Meanwhile, ₦3.3 billion was approved for water supply and energy projects. These include the construction of a water treatment plant in Rano Local Government Area and the payment for electricity and fuel supplies for the State Water Board.
Bature added that the government also approved funds to settle outstanding electricity bills and procure diesel and petrol for water treatment plants across the state.
He noted that the move is aimed at improving access to clean water, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting better living standards for the people of Kano State.
