NUC approves 22 new programmes for Wesley University [SEE LIST]

ASHENEWS reports that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 22 new academic programmes for the Wesley University Ondo (WUO) with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Director of Information, Communication and Public Relations of the university, Rev. Stanley Ihedigbo, in a statement emailed to ASHENEWS on Thursday, said the approval is contained in a letter dated 20th June, 2023 and signed, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, by the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. B. N. Saliu.

According to the letter referenced NUC/AP/P.30/Vol.11/10, “The Vice Chancellor, is please invited to recall that a resource verification visit was carried out by panels of experts to some proposed programmes in Wesley University Ondo, with a view to assessing the human and materials resources available for their establishment.

“I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the following programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session: B.Ed. Special Education, LL.B Law, B.A English and Literary Studies, B.Sc. International Relations and Diplomacy, B.Sc. Community Health, B. A. Theatre Arts, B.Sc. Public Administration, B. Ed. Early Childhood Education, B. MLS Medical Laboratory Science, B. A. (Ed) Christian Religious Education (Theology), B.Sc. Library and Information Science, B. Sc. Sociology , B. Sc. Ed Social Science.

“Post Graduate Studies are, PGD, M.Sc. & Ph. D Microbiology, PGD, MBA, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Business Administration, PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Accounting , PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Hospitality Management and Tourism, PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Computer Science , PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Mass Communication, PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Nutrition and Dietetics, and PGD, M.Sc. & Ph.D. Biochemistry.

“It would be recalled that NUC visited the University in April this year to ascertain the readiness of the institution for the 22 programmes.”

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Sunday Obeka (JP), said all is set for the commencement of all the approved academic programmes in September this year.

He advised prospective candidates to visit the Wesley University Ondo on JAMB portal to apply for the programmes.

He added that WUO is fully prepared to welcome the pioneer students into the newly approved programmes, assuring that the institution would continue to fulfil its mandate in terms of high quality teaching, cutting edge research and strategic community engagement.

Wesley University, Ondo, is one of the leading private universities in Nigeria, established by Methodist Church Nigeria over one and half decade ago, with core values of seeking excellence, intellectual freedom, freedom of expression, integrity and high moral values.

The graduates of the university have been making giant strides in all spheres of national growth and development.

These strides are manifest through their contributions in all fields of human capacity development especially in the field of Agriculture, Mass communication, Theology, Accounting, Political Sciences, Economics, Nutrition, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, Hospitality Management &Tourism and others.
