The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Thursday said Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) metered a total of 241,590 customers between January and February.
The commission disclosed this in a Factsheet published on its X handle in Abuja.
According to the report, 119,792 customers were metered in January, while 121,798 were metered in February, representing metering rates of 57.93 per cent and 58.57 per cent respectively.
Cumulatively, the total number of new customers metered rose from 7.1 million in January to 7.2 million in February.
The report also showed that the total number of active electricity customers increased from over 12.2 million in January to over 12.3 million in February.
It noted a commendable improvement in the metering rate by Port Harcourt DisCo, which rose from 65.47 per cent to 66.36 per cent, along with consistent gains recorded by Abuja, Eko, Ikeja, and Ibadan DisCos.
“However, Eko and Ikeja remain the top performers with metering rates above 84 per cent,” the report stated.
The Factsheet listed DisCos with metering rates below 50 per cent as Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola.
It added that DisCos would continue to meter new customers, but accelerated rollout is still required to close the metering gap.
