One of the projects recently commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari, Goni Kachallari Government Day Technical Secondary School in Maiduguri, was gutted by fire on Monday.
The fire destroyed the multi million Naira school which was commissioned barely seven months.
ASHENEWS reports that the third floor of the school located at Goni Kachallari community along Maiduguri-Gamboru Ngala Highway, was burnt to ashes in spite of efforts put by the state and federal fire services to quench the inferno.
Chemise Construction Company working on the nearby project also deployed their machineries to support the fire fighters.
Though the source of the inferno had not been identified as at the time of filling this report, ASHENEWS gathered that the school was yet to be connected to the national grid, power generator or solar energy.
Some workers who spoke to ASHENEWS on condition of anonymity also confirmed that the school has no kitchen that could be the source of the blaze.
An eye witness, Makinta Bukar said “the incidence is amazing and a major setback in the education sector that has been ravaged by the activities of Boko Haram/ISWAP.”
He called on the state government to investigate the incidence with immediate effect.
Many other residents of Goni Kachallari community told ASHENEWS that there is the need for the government to investigate incidence.
