ASHENEWS reports that President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Center.
The Counter-Terrorism Center is under the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), which is headed by Nuru Ribadu.
General Laka, whose appointment of the new coordinator was announced by the Presidency Tuesday had served in the North East and Sierra Leone.
He also served in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, otherwise called MONUSCO.
General Laka was part of the Nigerian contingent in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal.
He holds a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy.

Counterterrorism is defined as an attempt by governments to identify terrorists and prevent them from carrying out attacks.
Governments use various methods like intelligence gathering and surveillance to achieve this goal.
Alternatively spelled counter-terrorism, it is also known as anti-terrorism, and relates to the practices, military tactics, techniques, and strategies that governments, law enforcement, businesses, and intelligence agencies use to combat or eliminate terrorism.
The National Counter-Terrorism Center was established as the coordinating body to counter terrorism and terrorist financing in the country.
It is staffed by representatives from government agencies and departments, and it houses Nigeria’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Branch, National Counter Terrorism Strategy, Explosive Devices Analysis Office and the Preventing Countering Violent Extremism Unit.
