The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint airstrike conducted by the Nigerian military in collaboration with the United States targeted suspected terrorist locations in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no civilian casualties recorded.

The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to journalists in the state.

According to the statement, the full impact of the air operation could not be immediately determined, as authorities are awaiting a comprehensive assessment from the joint military operations team.

The government also addressed reports concerning objects discovered near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area, noting that the circumstances surrounding the findings could not yet be explained. It stressed that analysis by Nigerian and United States military authorities is still ongoing and reaffirmed that no civilian casualties were recorded in Jabo.

The state government welcomed the collaboration between Nigeria and international partners, describing it as a critical step towards addressing terrorism and cross-border criminal activities in Sokoto State.

“Sokoto State welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and all relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and cross-border crimes in the state,” the statement said.

It added that the ongoing security operations are focused on safeguarding lives and property, as well as restoring lasting peace across affected communities.

The government further noted that over the past two years, it has consistently supported security agencies by providing equipment and other resources to strengthen the fight against banditry and terrorism across the state.

Residents of affected areas were urged to continue cooperating with both federal and state authorities by providing timely and useful intelligence to security agencies. The government also called on citizens to remain calm and law-abiding while supporting ongoing efforts to defeat criminal elements.

The statement concluded with an appeal for prayers for security personnel as they work to ensure peace and stability in Sokoto State and the country at large.
