The Sokoto state commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has launched X-SQUAD in his determination to review crime fighting strategies in the state.

It is also in his efforts towards strengthening the existing security strategies for return of peace in the state

The X-SQUAD, Gumel said would serve as additional anti-violence Quick Reaction Striking Force in all emergencies and to complement the existing tactical units, a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Sanusi Abubakar made available to ASHENEWS on Saturday said.

“The squad will work with the native and intelligence community to implement strategies that will rid the state from all forms of criminal activities and keep away criminal elements.

“The Squad is also mandated to checkmate unprofessional attitude, brutality and other misconduct, among others in line with best practices policing agenda.”

The Commissioner of Police on August 31, 2022 undertook operation tour to Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Rabah and Wurno local government areas, parts of which are hotspots in the state.

In Sabon Birni local government, Gumel undertook on-the-spot assessment of Kwanar Maharba, Kai Ka Zaka, Unguwar Lalle and Tsamaye, which are some of the notorious points for bandits ambush/ attacks in recent times.

The tour, Gumel said is to review the existing strategies and reinforce the location with more operational facilities that can safeguard citizens plying the road.

He encouraged policemen, visiting PMF personnel and relevant actors of security industry to improve operational activities and work together under one umbrella of restoring peace and security in the general area.

The CP also commended all community efforts, sacrifices and dedication, especially by the traditional institution and non state actors to the ongoing operation against banditry and other related crimes.
