The jets of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday, stroke Kurebe village in Shiroro local government area of Niger state, killing eight persons, including a seven year old.
A source from the village told ASHENEWS that jets flew over the village at 3.30pm and dropped one bomb inside the village and another near Kurebe primary school.
Those killed include Ibrahim Danjuma, Mustapha Hamisu, Aminu Koche, Basiru Ajiya, Luka Goge, Asama’u Audu, Iliya Shuaibu and seven year old Jaafar Bello.
Sahabi Isiya sustained injuries on the chest and was rushed to a hospital in Kaduna.
“The jets dropped two bombs, one in the center of the village and another near the primary school.
“Eight people were killed, including a seven year old. Ibrahim Danjuma, Mustapha Hamisu, Aminu Koche, Basiru Ajiya, Luka Goge, Asama’u Audu, Iliya Shuaibu and seven year old Jaafar Bello,” the source said.
On whether people had vacated the village and only bandits were living there, he said: “No. Some of us still live in the village. Where can we possibly go? On our own we cannot get another place to go to and for many years, we have not set our eyes on any government official who could render any assistance in any form.
“As far as government is concerned, we are on our own,” the source further said.
He debunked reports that bandits were among those who were killed in the strike, adding that “I think the air strikes were aimed at the people because no one has been here to know whether we still live here or not.”
