LSBTS addresses concerns over wastages

The Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) has assured donors that there was no wastage of the blood donated at the center.

The Head of the Donor Recruitment Unit of the LSBTS, Mrs. Olayinka Animashaun stated this yesterday in Lagos during a blood drive organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Aspira Nigeria Ltd, and the NYSC CDS.

Animashaun said that the donations received were barely enough to go around all the 26 hospitals under its jurisdiction.

“We have a lot of people in the hospitals waiting for the blood being donated here.

“LSBTS distributes blood to all 26 hospitals and sometimes, some private hospitals access blood if they register and have emergency cases.

“Everything we collect here cannot last 72 hours. The blood won’t expire because we don’t even have enough,” she said.
