The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Sector Command, on Wednesday urged motorists and other road users to protect cyclists and vulnerable road users to enhance safety on Nigerian roads.
The call was made during a bicycle awareness campaign and rally organized by the command to mark the 2026 World Bicycle Day in Kaduna metropolis.
The Sector Commander, CC Andrew Longkam, represented by the Sector Head of Operations, DCC Abubakar Magaji, said the annual event aimed to promote road safety, healthy living, and environmental sustainability.
Magaji described the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly means of transportation that contributes significantly to healthy living and environmental protection.
He stated that cycling remains a viable alternative mode of transportation, especially in urban centers, and should be encouraged.
According to him, World Bicycle Day, celebrated annually on June 3, recognizes the bicycle’s uniqueness, longevity, and versatility.
“The bicycle promotes healthy living, reduces environmental pollution, and supports safer mobility when used responsibly,” he said.
The event featured a bicycle rally along designated routes within Kaduna metropolis to raise awareness about safe cycling practices and encourage more people to adopt bicycles for transportation and recreation.
Magaji also sensitized participants and the public on the importance of mutual respect among all road users.
He emphasized the need to protect cyclists and vulnerable road users on highways to reduce traffic crashes and improve road safety.
It was reported that the event attracted FRSC officers, personnel, and members of the Kaduna State Bicycle Club under the state Ministry of Sports.
Many residents who witnessed the rally praised the initiative and showed interest in cycling as a healthy and sustainable transportation option.
Participants reportedly maintained good riding discipline and adhered to traffic regulations throughout the event.
The FRSC stated that the event successfully promoted cycling, healthy living, environmental sustainability, and road safety awareness.
