“Borno state government will support you and we will return you to your community as soon as the water recedes” – Zulum
Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Sunday visited Malam-Fatori citizens who were displaced by floods and in refugee camps close to Bosso in neighbouring Niger Republic.
Malam-Fatori is headquarters of Abadam local government in the northern part of Borno state, northeast Nigeria along the shores of Lake Chad. It was occupied by Boko Haram for seven years from 2014 before it was recovered by the military.
ASHENEWS recalls that between 2013 and 2014, citizens from Abadam, Monguno and other 10 LGAs in northern Borno, took refuge in Bosso, Niger Republic for seven years when they fled from Boko Haram attacks.
This time, the Malam-Fatori citizens were recently sacked by flood caused by excessive recharge around Lake Chad.
Zulum who addressed the Malam-Fatori flood victims in Bosso said: “We are here to sympathize with you over the flood disaster that has affected you. Many of you lost personal belongings. Insha Allah, Borno state government will support you and we will return you to your community as soon as the water recedes,” Zulum said.
The governor thanked officials of Niger Republic for always welcoming Nigerians from Borno state in hours of distress.
During the trip to Bosso, Zulum also interfaced with the Commander of the Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Brig Gen AbdulSalam Abubakar and also paid tribute to the troops for their huge sacrifices.
He also expressed gratitude to Presidents of Lake Chad countries deploying soldiers to the Multinational Joint Task Force.
He praised President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, and Presidents of Niger, Chad, and Cameroon Republics for their relentless commitments to the fight against insurgents in their countries.
Zulum returned to Maiduguri on Sunday night after the humanitarian visit.
