All the elements that would go into any eventual intervention have been brought out here and refined, including the timing, the resources needed, and how, where, and when we are going to deploy such a force
Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS commissioner for political affairs, peace, and security said
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has said that plans and resources have been put in place to force out the military junta in the Niger Republic and reinstate its democratically elected leader, President Mohamed Bazoum.
The ECOWAS meeting not attended by Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Guinea in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday, still suggests that there is no general community cooperation for the action to be taken against the Niger Republic.
And, yes, there are still two days of the ECOWAS ultimatum left for the planned launch of force against General Abdouramane Tchiani, who also seems unwilling to restore Bazoum.
He has already announced the severance of ties with Nigeria, Togo, the USA, and France and has asked the ambassadors to those countries to return.
According to the ECOWAS commissioner for political affairs, peace, and security, Abdel-Fatau Musah, “All the elements that would go into any eventual intervention have been brought out here and refined, including the timing, the resources needed, and how, where, and when we are going to deploy such a force. “We will make them hand over to the civilian authorities.”
President Tinubu’s delegation, headed by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, for peaceful talks with the junta, was deadlocked because they could only meet with representatives of coup leaders.
