ASHENEWS reports that the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police inspector during an alleged attack by motorcycle riders in Lagos.
The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this in a series of tweets he posted on Wednesday evening.
Hundeyin said that one other personnel, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was left seriously injured during the incident which happened at Cele bus stop.
He said that the command has arrested two persons in connection with the incident while 41 motorcycles were impounded.
“While enforcing the existing ban on the use of motorcycles in parts of Lagos State, Police Officers of Isolo Division came under attack from motorcycle riders at Cele bus-stop, resulting in the death of one Police Inspector & serious injury to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
“Two suspects have been arrested while forty-one motorcycles were impounded. The Lagos State Police Command will not be deterred from carrying out its mandate of enforcing duly established laws,” his tweets read in parts.
Hundeyin said that its personnel will continue to enforce the existing ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles in some parts of the state.
He warned that the command will no longer tolerate such attacks on its personnel.
“Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding, as riders and passengers alike arrested on prohibited routes will face the law.
“Above all, any form of attack on Police Officers will no longer be tolerated, ” he said.
