Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday, handed over mopped up fire arms and ammunition recovered from June 2021 to January 2022 to the Center for the Control of Small and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) at the Presidency.
The commissioner, Umar Sanda while handling over the items at the police command said the achievements was recorded through robust synergy and partnership with sister security agencies, local security outfits and other non-governmental organizations, which is in place to flush out criminals in the state.
“I want to emphasize that these feat was recorded through information provided to the state command by members of the public and I hope this trend will be strengthened and sustained.
“It is my singular honour to hand over these mopped-up arms and ammunition to the National Center for the Control of Small and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) situated at the office of the National Security Adviser.”
The recovered firearms included 25 AK-47 rifle; one locally-made SMG; one SMG; locally made fabricated AK47; one English Barretta and one magazine; two pump Barretta; 29 Rusted/ unserviceable locally-made pump cartridges; 27 Rusted/ unserviceable locally-made revolver and one locally-made dane gun.
The ammunition are: 874, 7.6mm; 5,022, 5.56mm; 113 9X19mm; 274, 62.7mm; 177, 38mm and 87 blank .
Sanda assured the command’s protection to all law abiding citizens in the state while calling for continued collaboration in information sharing.
Receiving the fire arms on behalf of the Center, Commissioner of Police, Chris Owolabi in charge of Operations, commended the Bauchi Command for mopping up the firearms and ammunition and handing over same to the agency.
Owolabi lamented that there are illegal arms and ammunition across the country, saying that efforts must be made by all security agencies to mop up the firearms and ammunition in order to promote a crime free society.
He assured that the firearms and ammunition recovered will be further investigated in order to trace the owners and how they got them, adding that at the end of it, they will be destroyed.
