Bandits on Friday night attacked the “Burkusuma camp”, joint military base in Dama village of Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state.
Although ASHENEWS could not reach the Director, Defense Media Operations, Brig.-Gen Ben Onyeoku on phone because he was not able to pick, this paper gathered that the bandits approached and opened fire on the camp.
Idris Gobir, a ex-Sabon Birni local government chairman told Daily Trust that many security operatives were still missing since after the attack.
According to Gobir, report of the attack was received from a resident of the area who was using Nigerien network.
“But I will still contact him for more updates and get back to you,” he assured.
A traditional ruler in the area further told Daily Trust that some vehicles had been provided to evacuate corpses security personnel.
“And over 10 trucks loaded with well armed soldiers are currently in the forest trailing the bandits.”
According to a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said on condition of anonymity, said three of the Corps’ personnel were among those killed.
“As I am talking to you, we are at the morgue to claim and recover their corpses for burial,” he said
The Commissioner for Carriers and Security Matters, Garba Moyi who confirmed the attack, was not certain of the number of casualties.
ASHENEWS however gathered that the corpses of the security personnel had been taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto.
