Jangebe schoolgirls who were abducted by bandits in Zamfara, have disclosed that some of their kidnappers gave them phone numbers and promising to marry them.
Many of the girls interviewed by Daily Trust said the bandits wanted the schoolgirls to call them back if they agreed to their request.
One of the girls told Daily Trust that the bandits advised them to drop out of school and get married.
“They were about to divorce us, and some of them came and started showing some of us that they wanted to marry us if we agreed, that we should not continue to waste our time in the name of education,” she said.
She added that the militants were terrified by military warplanes and tried to take refuge whenever they heard gunshots.
“They call the military planes ‘hawks’; when they see them, they tell us to hide under trees and rivers. The planes are really scary.”
