The 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, has arraigned 68 soldiers to before a court marshal at Giginya Barracks Sokoto for various offences.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division of the Army, Major-General Uwem Bassey, who declared the session opened on Wednesday, said “the court marshal is established to not only administer justice to the victims but also to the institution as well as the accused persons that are standing trial.”
The GOC reminded the 12-man members of the court marshal that the accused were still members of the Nigerian Army, adding that the trial should guided by principles of natural justice, equity and fair hearing as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The counsel to the accused soldiers, Godwin Uwadige told journalists that one of the accused was charged with armed robbery while others were charged with cowardice and other punishable offences.
