A petrol tanker on Monday crushed five persons to death at Celica area on new Ife-Ibadan road, Egbeda local government area of Oyo state. The petroleum tanker lost control, rammed into a Micra car and plunged into a nearby ditch with the Micra car. Mrs Uche Chukwurah, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in the state, confirmed the incident in an interview on Monday. An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, sentenced one Ademola Oluwaseun,19, to life imprisonment for attempted armed robbery. In his judgment, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye said, although the convict was charged for offence of armed robbery, but evidence before the court only established offence of attempted armed robbery against him. Ogunmoye said there was no evidence that he succeeded in stealing anything from his victim when he was caught. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, says the oil and gas sector accounts for about 10 per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
