The Nigerian Diaspora Movement (NDM) has urged the Federal Government to overhaul the nation’s security apparatus with a view to addressing the security challenges in the country. Youth groups in the South East have called for a review of the indiscriminate mounting of road blocks in the region by security agencies. The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), has approved three additional biosphere reserves in Nigeria. Dr Moma Enang, National Professional Officer, Natural Science Sector, UNESCO Regional Office, Abuja said this on Friday. Enang named the reserves as Oban Biosphere Reserve and Okwango Biosphere Reserves, both in Cross River and the Hadejia-Nguru-Bade Biosphere Reserve cutting across Yobe and Jigawa. She said that the approval was granted through the Man and the Biosphere Programme International Coordinating Council (MAB-ICC) of the organisation. Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says it is working on strengthening states institutions to combat human right abuses and organised crimes in the sub-region. The Ondo state government has fixed February 23 for the inauguration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the Oct. 10 governorship election. Protests resumed on Friday around some parts of the Muslim world as anger spread over France’s handling of cartoons of Islam’s prophet Muhammad, deemed offensive by many Muslim countries.
