The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Accord have arrested 11 illegal miners and eliminated scores of bandits on Nov. 21 in parts of Zamfara and Katsina States. The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement on Monday, said the troops continued to record successes in the fight against banditry and other criminal acts in the zone. Enenche said the troops apprehended the illegal miners following credible intelligence on their activities at Kadauri in Maru local government area of Zamfara. He disclosed that the suspects had been handed over to the appropriate prosecuting authority for further action.…

The Nigeria Health Watch, a nonprofit organisation, says community Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) will help to reduce maternal deaths rate in the country. Mrs Vivianne Ihekweazu, Managing Director, Nigeria Health Watch, made the assertion in an interview in Abuja on Saturday. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says maternal mortality or death is the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days after the delivery or termination of a pregnancy. Nigeria recorded 246 fresh cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday, bringing the total to 66,228 since the first case was confirmed on February 27, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said. The information contained in its verified website, said that one patient was confirmed dead, pushing the death toll to 1,166. Nigeria has so far tested 739,216 persons. The public health agency said that 102 COVID-19 patients were discharged within the period across the country. According to NCDC, a total of 61,884 patients have recovered from the disease.
