The Federal government on Wednesday in Abuja granted N10 million as seed fund to five innovators that emerged winners in the World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID) challenge. The five startup winners emerged among over 800 entries made for the challenge and received N2 million each. The World Health Organisation (WHO) is launching a new initiative which aims to halt transmission of malaria in 25 more countries by 2025. The initiative is to be launched on World Malaria Day on April 25. Thailand, South Africa and Saudi Arabia are among the countries the WHO aimed to make malaria-free. The 25 countries would receive specialised support and technical guidance to help eradicate the disease. Gunmen have attacked Greenfield University in Kaduna and abducted unconfirmed number of students. Confirming the attack and abduction on Wednesday, the spokesperson of Kaduna Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige said “the gunmen launched the attack on Greenfield University on Tuesday evening. “The attack on university, which is located on Kaduna-Abuja highway took place at about 8:35p.m on Tuesday,” he said. Jalige could not however say how many students were abducted. “The number of students kidnapped has not been ascertained,” adding that security operatives were deployed to the general area for search and rescue operation.
The Town Hall Meeting on National Security organised by the Federal government has recommended that state police should be supported by the National Assembly as well as the House of Assembly in states. The Kano state government has paid over N100 million as medical allowances for High Court Judges in the state. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, made this known when he received members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kano state chapter on a visit. “We also paid over N20 million as allowances for Magistrates and Sharia Court judges. “We also paid Sharia and Magistrate court judges N20 million as furniture allowance,” he said. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) said out of 4.4 million Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines received in the country, 1,114, 408 million have been utilised, representing 55.4 per cent of targeted eligible group.
