The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday said that its Independent Investigation panel on allegations of violations of human rights by the defunct SARS and other police units will continue public sitting in Abuja soon. The Chairman House Committee on Youth Development, Mr Yemi Adaramodu, has given assurance that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme would not be scrapped. Adaramodu gave the assurance at the unveiling of nine books on NYSC and a maiden NYSC film to commemorate the 48th anniversary of the scheme in Abuja on Thursday. Gunmen on Thursday attacked Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria, Kaduna state and abducted unspecified number of lecturers and their families. An official of Kaduna Sate Vigilance Service who did not want to be mentioned, said some students of the institution were also injured. The official, who did not give details, said the incident occurred on Thursday night between 10.30pm and 11pm. Scientists have said that Dengue fever cases have been cut by 77% in a “groundbreaking” trial that manipulates the mosquitoes that spread it, BBC has reported. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a draft supplementary budget of N895 billion for the year 2021.
